Secret Chambers by Martin Brasier
Very interesting book with lots to say about the evolution of the eukaryotic cell, but too much time spent waffling on about ships, friends, characters and stuff. Get to the science bit! Still, the science bits were very good, and the overall theory – of eukaryotic cell development by symbiosis over almost a billion years (the so-called Boring Billion, the coining of which Brasier, it turns out, was in on) – is fascinating. A good book, but needed more science. 3½ out of 5.
